PHIXER for Vimeo / professional video mono fold (embed players and phone review)
Studio headphones can feel huge while the same Vimeo upload thins in an embed player, on a phone during client review, or when a stereo bed under voiceover loses lows on fold. That is a different job from YouTube loudness, YouTube social mono, TikTok / Reels / Shorts, and Twitch livestream. Practical habit: check with PHIXER before you share the review link. Free phase-repair helps after polarity and timing. It is not a Vimeo encoder, not a time-aligner, and not a stereo widener.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a Vimeo encoder, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a real mono / phone / embed-player check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a stereo bed you must keep stereo through Vimeo embeds, client review links, and phone playback. Check with PHIXER before you share.
Three Vimeo / pro-video collapse modes (not YouTube or TikTok)
- Embed player fold. Site embeds, portfolio pages, and agency players often downmix or near-mono the image. A master that sounds huge in cans can soft-drop bed lows and side beds under VO. Habit: true L+R sum on the bounce, then preview inside a real embed or review player before you send the link.
- Phone fold on client review links. Clients and stakeholders often open the Vimeo review on a phone speaker or one bud. L/R fights that pass stereo monitors show up immediately. Mute wide FX briefly and re-check on a phone, not only in the DAW.
- Stereo beds under voiceover. Music beds, sting beds, and ambient beds under VO are where disappearing lows and hollow mid bands hurt most. Distinct from YouTube loudness, YouTube social fold, TikTok short-form, and Twitch. Cousins: YouTube loudness · YouTube mono · TikTok / Reels / Shorts · Twitch.
Fast Vimeo / embed / phone mono audition (about 60 seconds)
- Sum L+R on the master / stereo bounce bus. Listen to VO intelligibility, bed lows, and side beds under voiceover.
- A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: S and SH consonants, kick or bed punch, wide pads under the VO.
- Preview the bounce on a phone speaker and, if you can, inside a Vimeo embed or review-player path. Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs. Note which path thins the phone fold.
- Re-check fold after any limiter / loudness / encode / upload pass, not only before cleanup. Still check with PHIXER before you share the client review link if residual L/R fights remain.
Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)
1. True mono / L+R listen plus phone and embed preview
Hard L+R sum on the master / stereo bounce. Then preview on a phone speaker and inside a Vimeo-style embed or review path. Habit: the 60-second audition above.
2. Polarity if a path flips
Dual mics, stacked stems, dual-path beds under VO. Flip polarity when body returns. Guide: polarity vs phase.
3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools
Nudge dual mics, stacked takes, and wide beds a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing. PHIXER is not a time-aligner.
4. Prefer correlated lows and center under voiceover
Keep critical VO, kick, and bed lows correlated. Put width in sides that survive embed and phone fold. Related: trailer music, game trailer, and the YouTube / TikTok cousins above.
5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights
If a stereo bed must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Check with PHIXER before you share the Vimeo review link. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the YouTube intro.
Vimeo / professional video path types
| Setup | Common mono failure | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Vimeo embed on a site / portfolio | Bed lows and side beds soft-drop in the embed player | Hard mono bounce; preview inside a real embed |
| Client review link on phone | Fine in stereo cans, thin on phone speaker | True L+R + phone audition before you send the link |
| Stereo bed under voiceover | Disappearing lows / hollow mid under VO on fold | Correlate bed lows; less width under speech |
| Wide pad / Haas under VO | Swish or cancel on embed / phone fold | Less width in lows; correlated center |
| Dual-path vocal / stacked takes | Body gone when both play under a music bed | Polarity then timing; one hero speech path |
| Limiter / encode / upload pass | Fine in headphones, thin after Vimeo share | Re-check fold after encode / upload, not only before |
| YouTube / TikTok / Twitch / trailer cousin | Wrong checklist for pro-video embeds and review links | YouTube loudness · YouTube mono · TikTok · Twitch · trailer music · game trailer |
YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, and trailer cousins (short version)
- Vimeo embeds and client review links share the same L+R habit as phone fold, but the delivery path is pro-video review and site embeds, not Shorts virality or livestream VOD.
- YouTube loudness, YouTube social mono, TikTok / Reels / Shorts, and Twitch are cousins, not the same checklist. Do not reuse a Shorts or livestream list without an embed and review-link phone check.
- Trailer music and game trailer beds often land on Vimeo for client review. Same mono hygiene, different page jobs: trailer music · game trailer.
- Polarity and timing still come first. Spectral tools after residual L/R fights only. Check with PHIXER before you share.
- Full write-ups: YouTube loudness, YouTube mono, TikTok / Reels / Shorts, Twitch.
When not to reach for PHIXER
- Wrong polarity on dual mics or stacked stems (flip polarity first).
- Obvious attack misalignment (nudge first). PHIXER is not a time-aligner.
- You only need a mono print, not a stereo bed that must survive Vimeo embed and phone review fold.
- Vimeo upload / encode / caption / privacy settings (wrong tool). It is not a Vimeo encoder.
- Loudness, LUFS, or stream-encoder problems (wrong tool). See YouTube loudness for that cousin.
- Honesty list: When not to use PHIXER.
